Projects Showing our Precision Sheet Metal
and Fabrication Capabilities

As a sub-contractor in the Aviation industry, we must be very versatile in the projects we take on to remain competitive.  The result is an extensive knowledge of various sheet metal, machining, welding, and assembly techniques.  We use these techniques and apply them to various jobs of all sizes.  Sel-Tech’s staff can provide engineering support, fixture development, and other services to make sure prototype projects go smoothly.  Following are some examples of projects that Sel-Tech has been involved with over the years, where we are able to use such techniques.

LOCKHEED JETSTAR OIL RESERVOIR FOR GARRETT AIRCRAFT CO.

These tanks required precision manufacturing and fixturing.  The oil reservoir is made from 321 stainless steel, and is fitted with various attachments.  All seams are precision welded, and a final pressure test was performed as part of design data.

FIRE RETARDANT TANK FOR ERICKSON AIRCRANE

Erickson Aircrane contacted Sel-Tech to build them a tank for fire retardant to use on the S-64 helicopter.  This tank was rather large and required some extensive fixtures to not only hold it, but to properly locate components.  The internal structure consisted of a welded aluminum framework and baffles.  The exterior skin was manufactured from Aluminum and riveted together using a special sealant to prevent leaks.  This tank was manufactured over 20 years ago, and is still in operation today.

FIRE RETARDANT TANKS FOR EVERGREEN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES

Currently Sel-Tech is in contract with Evergreen International Airlines to manufacture and pressure test a new design of fire retardant tanks for use on a 747 Supertanker.  These units require large fixtures, and an extensive knowledge in sheet metal rolling and Hi-Lok fastening.  Due to the prototype nature of this project, we cannot divulge too much information at this time.

Also on staff at Sel-Tech are personnel with an intimate knowledge of the MAFFS (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System) fire retardant system.
